چکیده

We studied the properties of the intra-cluster medium (ICM) in two clusters of galaxies (AWM 7 and Abell 1060) and two groups (HCG 62 and NGC 507) with the X-ray Observatory Suzaku. Based on spatially resolved energy spectra, we measured for the first time precise cumulative ICM metal masses within 0.1 and ∼ 0.3 r180. Comparing our results with supernova nucleosynthesis models, the number ratio of type II (SNe II) to type Ia (SNe Ia) is estimated to be ∼ 3.5, assuming the metal mass in the ICM is represented by the sum of products synthesized in SNe Ia and SNe II. Normalized by the K-band luminosities of present galaxies, and including the metals in stars, the integrated number of past SNe II explosions is estimated to be close to or somewhat higher than the star formation rate determined from Hubble Deep Field observations. Subject headings: clusters: general — clusters: individual(Abell 1060, AWM 7, HCG 62, NGC 507)

Temperature and Metallicity in the Intra-cluster Medium of ABELL 262 observed with Suzaku

We studied the temperature and abundance distributions of intra-cluster medium (ICM) in the Abell 262 cluster of galaxies observed with Suzaku. Abell 262 is a bright, nearby poor cluster with ICM temperature of ∼ 2 keV, thus providing useful information about the connection of ICM properties between groups and clusters of galaxies. The observed spectrum of the central region was well-represente...

Suzaku Observations of AWM 7 Cluster of Galaxies: Temperature, Abundance and Bulk Motions

We carried out 3 observations of the cluster of galaxies AWM 7, for the central region and 20-east and 20-west offset regions, with Suzaku. Temperature and abundance profiles are measured out to 27 ≃ 570 h 70 kpc, which corresponded to ∼ 0.35 r180. The temperature of the intra-cluster medium (ICM) slightly decreases from 3.8 keV at the center to 3.4 keV in ∼ 0.35 r180 region, indicating a flatt...

Contribution of Type Ia and Type II Supernovae for Intra-Cluster Medium Enrichment

The origin of the chemical composition of the intracluster medium (ICM) is discussed in this paper. In particular, the contribution from Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) to the ICM enrichment is shown to exist by adopting the fitting formulas which have been used in the analysis of the solar system abundances. Our analysis means that we can use the frequency of SNe Ia relative to SNe II as the bette...

Simulating the metal enrichment of the intra–cluster medium

We present results from Tree+SPH simulations of a galaxy cluster, aimed at studying the metal enrichment of the intra–cluster medium (ICM). The simulation code includes a fairly advanced treatment of star formation, as well as the release of energy feedback and detailed yields from both type-II and type-Ia supernovae, also accurately accounting for the lifetimes of different stellar populations...

Intermediate Element Abundances in Galaxy Clusters

We present the average abundances of the intermediate elements obtained by performing a stacked analysis of all the galaxy clusters in the archive of the X-ray telescope ASCA. We determine the abundances of Fe, Si, S, and Ni as a function of cluster temperature (mass) from 1 – 10 keV, and place strong upper limits on the abundances of Ca and Ar. In general, Si and Ni are overabundant with respe...
